Riding the Ferries

The first time we took our coach and tow on a ferry I was both excited, and a little nervous.  Logically, I know the ferries are used by commercial vehicles every day, and our RV wouldn’t throw a monkey wrench in anyone’s floating transport plans.  I still imagined the whole thing tipping over under the weight of our coach, versus the little commuter cars on board, unable to equalize us.  I know the workers are experienced at balancing the load, and still my mind goes to the dark place.  Only for a moment, though.  As the ferry glides across the bay, it’s so cool to see a giant body of water out the RV’s windows.

This trip we rode the ferry from Port Aransas to Galveston.  We’ve been on this one before, so even though it was raining off and on, we were comfortable with this short ride.

We road a different ferry from Galveston heading east.  This was a longer ride on a larger ferry.  Steve had to get out and turn off the propane tank before we could board.  He also had to thread our big rig in the middle of two rows of cars, in a lane at that looked to be at least a foot less wide than it needed to be.  He’s a pro, so I had full confidence, but still, check out the pic below.  You want him to put our coach and tow where?!

Ay ay ay, you have got to be kidding! Pull in your mirrors, folks!

As you can see, we mounted the GoPro for some video, and I recorded with my Canon camera, as well.  One of these days we’ll find internet fast enough to upload video.  I tried with my cell phone as a hotspot, and it just gobbled up our data.

In the meantime, here’s some more photos.
