El Mercado, “Market Square”, San Antonio, TX

Historic El Mercado was very quiet during our visit, not that there’s anything wrong with that.  It’s easy to imagine strolling musicians, and crowds buzzing about.

The square is lined with shops and restaurants, most notably, Mi Tierra Cafe and Bakery.  This place looks like Christmas year-round.  Sparkly decorations and lights cover the ceiling, framed bits of history adorn the walls, and you can’t help but smile when you walk in.  Since we’d been walking around for hours, a cold beverage was in order.  When is a cold beverage ever a bad idea?

There’s no such thing as a size request here. When asking for a cold draft beer, this is what you get. MMMmmm, frosty.

The interior of Mi Tierra is so sparkly!

Inside the bar the feel is more historic, the sparkle is saved for the bakery and restaurant.

This arch reminded me of an art piece we picked up in Monterey, CA that travels with us in the RV

Christmas year-round!

If this place doesn’t lift your spirits, you have no soul

We took a stroll through the indoor marketplace.  Since we live in San Diego, and visit Mexico often, the marketplace didn’t hold a great deal of interest to us.  Still, I found these displays, and they cracked me up!

I’m easily amused…
